In 1905 the article “Zur Elektrodynamik bewegter Körper” was published in the Annalen Der Physiks (see image) on special relativity written by Albert Einstein, a physicist at the time almost unknown!

In 1908 at 7.00 am, a huge meteor fell in Siberia in an uninhabited area called Tunguska (the meteorite was later called Tungusian), see photo. If the meteor had fallen four and three-quarter hours later, due to the rotation of the earth, it would have landed near the city of Petersburg, located almost at the same latitude as the actual place of fall

In 1973 there was a total solar eclipse (see photo) of over seven minutes! New observation techniques were used but the sensational result was obtained by the prototype 001 of Concorde which, hovering at an altitude of 17,000 meters and at a speed of 2,150 kilometers per hour, obtained a record totality of 74 minutes: more than all the eclipses of the century add together.

Nel 1973 ci fu l’eclissi totale di Sole (vedi foto) di oltre sette minuti! Vennero usate nuove tecniche di osservazione ma il risultato clamoroso lo ottenne il prototipo 001 del Concorde che, librandosi a 17.000 metri di quota e alla velocità di 2.150 chilometri all’ora, ottenne una totalità record di 74 minuti: piú di tutte le eclissi del secolo sommate insieme.

In 1993 Donald K. “Deke” Slayton, US astronaut and aviator, died. He was part of the first group of astronauts chosen by NASA in 1959 (one of the “magnificent seven”) chosen for the Mercury program but his first and only flight into space took place only in 1975 with the Apollo-Soyuz-ASTP mission.

Nel 1993 muore Donald K. “Deke” Slayton, astronauta e aviatore statunitense. Fece parte del primo gruppo di astronauti scelti dalla NASA nel 1959 (uno dei “magnifici sette”) scelti per il programma Mercury ma il suo primo ed unico volo nello spazio avvenne solo nel 1975 con la missione Apollo-Sojuz-ASTP.
