In 2013, the Nova Delphini 2013 was discovered (see sky map and photos) by Koichi Itagaki. The nova appeared with an apparent magnitude of 6.8 and then became 4.2 on August 16.

In 2003 a large-scale blackout occurred in the northeastern United States of America and in Canada. Can you imagine New York under a sky full of stars? The photo we see is by a well-known photographer, Thierry Cohen, who wanted to imagine with his project what it would be like to live in a city under a sea of ​​stars… His “slogan”: “Showing him the stars is helping him to dream again ”… If we remember Immanuel Kant “Two things fill the mind with ever new and increasing admiration and awe, the more often and steadily we reflect upon them: the starry heavens above me and the moral law within me”, we can imagine the wonder of a sky in the 1700s…. Will we be able to see the stars again?

Author’s note: enthusiasm moves dreams.., on 2022 I was secretary of the board of Circolo Culturale Astrofili Trieste and I had an ambitious project against light pollution in Trieste. One year after that idea, I saw the birth of this collaboration between CCAT and Circolo Verdeazzurro Legambiente, then expanded with INAF Osservatorio astronomico di Trieste, WWF Trieste, Lipu. La foto che vediamo è di un noto fotografo, Thierry Cohen, che ha voluto immaginare con il suo progetto come sarebbe vivere in una città sotto un mare di stelle… Il suo “slogan”: “Mostrargli le stelle è aiutarlo a sognare ancora”… Ricordando Kant “Il cielo stellato sopra di me, la legge morale dentro di me”, possiamo solo immaginare la meraviglia di un cielo nel 1700…. Riusciremo a riveder le stelle?

Nda: Su questo grande desiderio, nel 2022 spinsi il Circolo Culturale Astrofili Trieste (di cui ero segretario), ad un ambizioso progetto contro l’inquinamento luminoso a Trieste. A distanza di un anno da quell’idea, ho visto nascere questa collaborazione tra CCAT ed il Circolo Verdeazzurro Legambiente poi ampliata con INAF, WWF Trieste e Lipu. Niente è impossibile, pertanto faccio i miei migliori auguri al CCAT e a tutti i membri del coordinamento che questo progetto raccolga i suoi frutti… Felice di aver contribuito nel mio piccolo a lanciare un sassolino in questo stagno riflettente di stelle..
