Thomas Wright was born in 1711 and is known for the publication of “An original theory or new hypothesis of the universe (1750)” in which he explains the apparent structure of the Milky Way as “an optical effect due to our immersion in what locally resembles a flat strip of stars”. This idea was taken up and developed by Immanuel Kant in his “Universal Natural History and Theory of Heaven”.

Questa idea fu ripresa e sviluppata da Immanuel Kant nella sua “Universal Natural History and Theory of Heaven”.

In 1862 from the observatory of Hamilton College in Clinton (New York, USA) Christian Heinrich Friedrich Peters discovered (75) Eurydike, a small asteroid in the main belt (see position simulation). It likely has a very rich nickel and iron composition and a high albedo for an asteroid. It was baptized in honor of Eurydice, the nymph wife of Orpheus.

Nel 1862 dall’osservatorio dell’Hamilton College di Clinton (New York, USA) Christian Heinrich Friedrich Peters scopre (75) Eurydike, un piccolo asteroide della Fascia principale (vedi simulazione posizione). Ha probabilmente una composizione molto ricca di nichel e ferro e un elevato albedo per un asteroide. Fu battezzato così in onore di Euridice, la ninfa moglie di Orfeo.

In 1894 Pelageja Fëdorovna Šajn was born (see photo), the first woman to discover an asteroid; the Minor Planet Center credits her with the discovery of nineteen asteroids, made between 1928 and 1953. She also identified approximately 150 variable stars and she co-discovered with Robert D. Schaldach the periodic comet 61P / Shajn-Schaldach. The asteroid 1190 Pelagia is named in her honor.

Nel 1894 nasce Pelageja Fëdorovna Šajn (vedi foto) prima donna a scoprire un asteroide; il Minor Planet Center le accredita la scoperta di diciannove asteroidi, effettuate tra il 1928 e il 1953. Individuò inoltre circa 150 stelle variabili e coscoprì con Robert D. Schaldach la cometa periodica 61P/Shajn-Schaldach. L’asteroide 1190 Pelagia è così chiamato in suo onore.
