Antoine Darquier de Pellepoix was born in 1718, a French astronomer known for his studies on some astronomical phenomena such as sunspots collected in the book Observations Astronomiques Faites Toulouse. In January 1779, a few days before Charles Messier, when he was observing the comet, using a 2.5 inch achromatic refractor telescope with a focal length of 42 inches he discovered the ring nebula, describing it thus: “a very dull nebula, but perfectly outlined; as large as Jupiter and looks like a fading planet”. In 1781 he was among the first astronomers to observe the recently discovered planet Uranus with the same telescope, calculating its orbit. Between 1791 and 1798 he created a vast catalog of star positions which Jérôme Lalande incorporated into his catalog of nearly 50,000 stars.

Nel 1718 nasce Antoine Darquier de Pellepoix, astronomo francese noto per i suoi studi su alcuni fenomeni astronomici come le macchie solari raccolte nel libro Osservazioni Astronomiques Faites Toulouse. Nel gennaio 1779, qualche giorno prima di Charles Messier, quando stava osservando la cometa, utilizzando un telescopio rifrattore acromatico di 2,5 pollici con lunghezza focale di 42 pollici scoprì la ring nebula, descrivendola così: “una nebulosa tra Gamma e Beta Lyrae, è molto noioso, ma perfettamente delineato, è grande come Giove e assomiglia a un pianeta che sta scomparendo”. Nel 1781 fu tra i primi astronomi a osservare il pianeta Urano, recentemente scoperto, con lo stesso telescopio, calcolandone l’orbita. Tra il 1791 ed il 1798 creò un vasto catalogo di posizione delle stelle che Jérôme Lalande incorporò nel suo catalogo di quasi 50.000 stelle.
