In 1859 the British naturalist Charles Darwin published On the origin of species by means of natural selection, or the preservation of favored races in the struggle for life, a book which argued that organisms evolved gradually through natural selection. The first edition will be sold out on the same day, as only 1250 pre-ordered copies have been printed.

Nel 1859 il naturalista britannico Charles Darwin pubblica On the origin of species by means of natural selection, or the preservation of favoured races in the struggle for life, un libro che sostiene che gli organismi si sono evoluti gradualmente attraverso la selezione naturale. La prima edizione verrà esaurita il giorno stesso, essendone state tirate solo le 1250 copie prenotate. 

In 1969 – Apollo program: Apollo 12 lands in the Pacific Ocean (see photo) putting an end to man’s second mission to the Moon. In the landing impact, which occurred at 8.58pm 800 km east of Samoa, a 16 mm video camera detached from its support and caused a head injury and concussion to Bean, who lost consciousness without suffering serious consequences; he later had 6 stitches placed on his forehead. The Command Module and the crew of Apollo 12 were recovered by the US aircraft carrier USS Hornet and transported to Pago Pago where they reached Honolulu by air on a C-141 cargo ship. The Hornet ship is now on display in a museum in Alameda, California. The Command Module is instead at the Virginia Air and Space Center, in Hampton.

Nel 1969 – Programma Apollo: l’Apollo 12 ammara nell’Oceano Pacifico (vedi foto) ponendo fine alla seconda missione dell’uomo sulla Luna. Nell’impatto di ammaraggio, avvenuto alle 20:58 a 800 km a est delle Samoa, una videocamera da 16 mm sganciandosi dal suo supporto provocò una ferita al capo e una commozione cerebrale a Bean, che perse conoscenza senza subire gravi conseguenze; in seguito gli furono applicati 6 punti di sutura in fronte. Il Modulo di Comando e l’equipaggio dell’Apollo 12 furono recuperati dalla portaerei statunitense USS Hornet e trasportati a Pago Pago dove per via aerea raggiunsero Honolulu con un cargo C-141. La nave Hornet è oggi in esposizione in un museo ad Alameda, in California. Il Modulo di Comando è invece al Virginia Air and Space Center, a Hampton.

In 2021: launch of the Falcon 9 v1.2 with DART (Double Asteroid Redirection Test) with the aim of demonstrating the possibility of deflecting an asteroid which will take place, as we well know, on 26 September 2022 with the impact towards the asteroid Dimorphos and which it will be imaged by LiciaCube, an Italian pride and then also by the Hubble and James Webb space telescopes. In 2021 launch Soyuz 2.1b – Progress MS-UM (Uzlovoy Module “Prichal”), a node added to the Russian part of the International Space Station (ISS) via a modified Progress, called Progress-M-UM and attached to the lower hatch of the module MLM (Nauka), providing four additional hatches for the addition of as many modules and a hatch for docking cargo or manned vehicles

Nel 2021 lancio Sojuz 2.1b – Progress MS-UM (Uzlovoy Module “Prichal”), un nodo aggiunto alla parte russa della Stazione Spaziale Internazionale (ISS) tramite una Progress modificata, chiamata Progress-M-UM e agganciato al boccaporto inferiore del modulo MLM (Nauka), fornendo quattro ulteriori boccaporti per l’aggiunta di altrettanti moduli ed un boccaporto per l’aggancio di veicoli cargo o con equipaggio
