Ignazio Porro, an Italian inventor, optician, topographer and academic, was born in 1807. His name is normally associated with the prism system he invented around 1850, which is used in the construction of binoculars.

Nel 1807 nasce Ignazio Porro, un inventore, ottico, topografo e accademico italiano. Il suo nome è normalmente associato al sistema di prismi da lui inventato verso il 1850, che è utilizzato nella costruzione dei binocoli. 

In 1915 Albert Einstein wrote down in his notebook the formula that contains the ultimate destiny of the universe, the famous field equations (see image).

In 2005 the Hayabusa probe reached the asteroid 25143 Itokawa. Due to problems in attitude control, no maneuvers were attempted to recover the samples which were instead sealed on 25 April and returned to Earth on 13 June 2010.
