Gottfried Kirch was born in 1639, a German astronomer who in 1680 discovered a comet (the C/1680 V1, informally baptized with the name of Kirck), also known as the Great Comet of 1680: it was the first comet in history to be discovered thanks to use of a telescope. In 1681 he discovered the open cluster M11, the Wild Duck cluster and the globular cluster M5 in 1702. The astronomer also discovered the variability of the Mira Chi Cygni variable in 1687.

Nel 1639 nasce Gottfried Kirch, astronomo tedesco che nel 1680 scoprì una cometa (la C/1680 V1, battezzata informalmente col nome di Kirck), conosciuta anche come la Grande Cometa del 1680: fu la prima cometa nella storia ad essere scoperta grazie all’uso di un telescopio. Nel 1681 scoprì l’ammasso aperto M11 l’ammasso dell’Anitra Selvatica e l’ammasso globulare M5 nel 1702. L’astronomo scoprì anche la variabilità della variabile Mira Chi Cygni nel 1687.

Andrew Sydney Withiel “Andy” Thomas was born in 1951, a former Australian naturalized American astronaut. He participated in the space shuttle missions STS-77, STS-89, STS-91, STS-102 and STS-114, the return-to-flight mission after the Space Shuttle Columbia disaster. He is married to NASA astronaut Shannon Walker.

Nel 1951 nasce Andrew Sydney Withiel “Andy” Thomas  ex astronauta australiano naturalizzato statunitense. Ha partecipato alle missioni spaziali Shuttle STS-77, STS-89, STS-91, STS-102 e STS-114, la missione di ritorno al volo dopo il Disastro dello Space Shuttle Columbia. È sposato con l’astronauta della NASA Shannon Walker.
