George Ritchey, an expert manufacturer of optical telescopes, was born in 1864. Ritchey designed and built the Ritchey-Chrétien reflecting telescope with Henri Chrétien. He played an important role in planning the construnction and transportation of the 60-inch and 100-inch telescopic mirrors at the Mount Wilson Observatory. He worked closely with George Ellery Hale. A crater on the Moon measuring 24 km in diameter and one on Mars measuring 77 km in diameter were dedicated to him.

Nel 1864 nasce George Ritchey, esperto costruttore di telescopi ottici. Ritchey progettò e costruì con Henri Chrétien il telescopio riflettore Ritchey-Chrétien. Svolse un ruolo importante nella progettazione del montaggio e nel trasporto degli specchi telescopici di 60 pollici e 100 pollici presso il Mount Wilson Observatory. Ha lavorato a stretto contatto con George Ellery Hale. Gli sono stati dedicati un cratere sulla Luna di 24 km di diametro e uno su Marte di 77 km di diametro.
