The American astrophysicist Halton Arp was born in 1927 and published “Atlas of Peculiar Galaxies” in 1966 which cataloged many examples of interacting galaxies.

Nel 1927 nasce l’astrofisico americano Halton Arp, il quale pubblicó nel 1966 “Atlas of Peculiar Galaxies” che cataloga molti esempi di galassie in interazione.

In 1938, the American astronomer George Ellery Hale died. He was inventor of the spectroheliograph (an instrument for observing the Sun in monochromatic light) and discovered the magnetic fields in sunspots. He was also the founder of the Monte Wilson observatory and designed the Monte Palomar observatory which however he never saw built. In the photo a crater on Mars dedicated to him.

Nel 1938 muore l’astronomo americano George Ellery Hale, inventore dello spettroeliografo (uno strumento per l’osservazione del Sole in luce monocromatica) e scoprì i campi magnetici nelle macchie solari. Fu anche il fondatore dell’osservatorio di Monte Wilson e progettò quello di Monte Palomar che però non vide mai realizzato. In foto un cratere su Marte a lui dedicati.
