In 1968 the Luna 14 probe left; the objective of the mission was to test the communication system for the N1-L3 project, which involved a piloted landing on the surface of the satellite. Furthermore, its orbits were precisely monitored, in order to map orbital anomalies for future missions. Luna 14 also studied the interaction between terrestrial and lunar masses and cosmic rays. This flight was the last of the probes belonging to the second generation of the Luna Program.

Nel 1968 partì la sonda Luna 14; l’obiettivo della missione era testare il sistema di comunicazione per il progetto N1-L3, il quale prevedeva un atterraggio pilotato sulla superficie del satellite. Inoltre furono monitorate con esattezza le sue orbite, in modo da mappare le anomalie orbitali per le prossime missioni. Luna 14 studiò anche l’interazione tra le masse terrestre e lunare e i raggi cosmici. Questo volo fu l’ultimo delle sonde appartenenti alla seconda generazione del Programma Luna.
