In 763 BC. the Assyrians record a solar eclipse, it is reported: “The Sun “disappears” for 5 minutes in Ashur, an ancient city of the Assyrian empire, in present-day Iraq, in the year 763 BC”

In 1657 Christiaan Huygens (1629-1695) presented his first pendulum clock to the States General; for his observations he needed an instrument capable of giving much more precise time measurements than those available up to then, therefore Huygens resumed Galileo’s studies on the motion of the pendulum and came up with a new type of clock which he patented in 1656. As early as the following year, watchmakers throughout Holland were displaying small marvels inspired by the mechanism devised by Huygens. The result of so much hard work is his most important work, the Hotrologium Oscillatorium, published in 1673

Nel 1657 Christiaan Huygens (1629-1695) presenta agli Stati Generali il suo primo orologio a pendolo; per le sue osservazioni aveva bisogno di uno strumento in grado di dare misure del tempo molto più precise rispetto a quelle disponibili fino ad allora quindi Huygens riprese in mano gli studi di Galileo sul moto del pendolo e ne tirò fuori un nuovo tipo di orologio che brevettò nel 1656. Già l’anno dopo le botteghe orologiaie di tutta l’Olanda esponevano in vetrina piccole meraviglie ispirate al meccanismo ideato da Huygens. Frutto di tanto duro lavoro è la sua opera più importante, l’Hotrologium Oscillatorium, pubblicato nel 1673

In 2005 discovered Hydra, or formally (134340) III Hydra, a natural satellite of Pluto identified thanks to the analysis of photographs taken by the Hubble Space Telescope in May of the same year.
