In 1860 “Great Procession” of meteors has been observed in the USA (from the Great Lakes to the state of New York), i.e. a luminous trail of meteorites (divided into two parts, as we see described in a newspaper of the time – courtesy space.com, see also this painting by Frederic Church 1826-1900).

In 2021 departure of the New Shepard (Blue Origin) with Jeff Bezos (founder of Amazon) and three other astronauts, the first commercial flight to cross the Kármán line (the border between the Earth’s atmosphere and space) lasting 11 min. that is, the time to go beyond 100 kilometers from the earth’s surface and let the crew experience the condition of microgravity. Trivia about the New Shepard flight: Among the crew members we find Wally Funk who was part of the Mercury 13 group, a group composed only of women who underwent the same medical tests as the astronauts of the Mercury program, but did not fly into space. Wally was also the first female safety inspector for the National Transportation Safety Board, the first female inspector for the Federal Aviation Administration, and the first female civilian flight instructor at Fort Sill.

Nel 2021 partenza del New Shepard (Blue Origin) con Jeff Bezos (fondatore di Amazon) e altri tre astronauti, il primo volo commerciale a superare la linea di Kármán (il confine tra l’atmosfera terrestre e lo spazio) della durata di 11 min. ovvero il tempo per andare oltre i 100 chilometri dalla superficie terrestre e far sperimentare all’equipaggio la condizione di microgravità. Curiosità sul volo New Shepard: Tra i membri dell’equipaggio troviamo Wally Funk che fece parte del gruppo Mercury 13, un gruppo composto da sole donne che si sottoposero agli stessi test medici degli astronauti del programma Mercury, ma non volarono nello spazio. Wally fu anche la prima donna ispettore della sicurezza per la National Transportation Safety Board, la prima donna ispettore per la Federal Aviation Administration e la prima donna istruttrice di volo civile a Fort Sill.
