In 1851: first US expedition to Europe for the observation of a solar eclipse in Scandinavia (see photo). It was directed by George Phillips Bond (1825-1865) son of William Cranch Bonf (1789-1843) discoverer, in 1848, of Saturn’s satellite Hyperion.

In 1964 the US lunar probe Ranger 7 was launched: as the Ranger 6 it crashed on the lunar surface on July 31 of the same year in the Mare Nubium. Nel 1964 avviene il lancio della sonda lunare statunitense Ranger 7: anch’essa, come la Ranger 6, si schiantò sulla superficie lunare il 31 luglio dello stesso anno nel Mare Nubium. Skylab 3 was launched in 1973 (see photo), the second crew of the Skylab space station of the United States of America. Over 2,000 hours of scientific and medical experiments were carried out in a total of 171 days in the three human missions, with observations of the Sun and the comet Kohoutek. The astronauts also performed a total of ten extravehicular activities (EVAs), for a total of more than 42 hours spent outside the Skylab.

Nel 1973 avviene il lancio dello Skylab 3 (vedi foto), il secondo equipaggio della stazione spaziale degli Stati Uniti d’America Skylab. In 171 giorni totali nelle tre missioni umane furono effettuate oltre duemila ore di esperimenti scientifici e medici, con osservazioni sul Sole e sulla cometa Kohoutek. Gli astronauti effettuarono complessivamente pure dieci attività extraveicolari (EVA), per un totale di oltre 42 ore trascorse all’esterno dello Skylab.
