In 5509 BC. begins the first year of the Byzantine calendar. According to Byzantine tradition this is the date of the creation of the world.

In 1514, the Italian astronomer Domenico Maria Novara, teacher of Nicolaus Copernicus, died. Among his astronomical observations, the one of November 9th 1497 relating to the occultation of the star Alfa Tauri (Aldebaran) by the Moon stands out; despite having a certain role in the Copernican discoveries, Copernicus never mentioned it in his works.
