In 1865 the first documented observation of the “green light of the Sun” in 1852 by P.G. Maggi (e.g. see photo), a popular phenomenon in 1882 with the publication of the novel La rayon veri by Jules Verne. The phenomenon is due to the refraction of sunlight by the atmosphere, when the grazing solar rays, crossing a thicker layer of air, are broken down into the various colored components as in a prism, and among these the green one stands out by contrast with the general yellow-orange hue of the sky.

Nel 1865 prima osservazione documentata della “luce verde del Sole”nel 1852 da P.G. Maggi  (es. vedi foto), un fenomeno popolare nel 1882 con la pubblicazione del romanzo La rayon veri di Jules Verne. Il fenomeno è dovuto alla rifrazione della luce solare da parte dell’atmosfera, quando i raggi solari radenti, attraversando uno strato d’aria più spesso, vengono scomposti come in un prisma nelle varie componenti colorate, e fra queste quella verde si distingue per contrasto con la tonalità generale giallo-arancione del cielo.

In 1961, Mercury Atlas 4 was launched at 14:09 UTC. On board there was a crew simulator, that is, a package of instruments that simulated the presence of a human being on board. The space capsule orbited the Earth for once. The purpose of the mission was to test the Mercury radio transmission system in orbit; furthermore it was practically the first successful orbit flight within the Mercury program.

La capsula spaziale orbitò intorno alla Terra per una volta. Scopo della missione fu il collaudo del sistema di trasmissione via radio del Mercury in orbita; inoltre essa fu in pratica il primo volo in orbita riuscito con successo nell’ambito del programma Mercury.

In 2007, Thomas M. Back, a well-known American optical designer who started TMB Optical in the late 1990s, mainly selling high-end refractors with great success, died.

Nel 2007 muore Thomas M. Back noto progettista ottico americano che alla fine degli anni ’90 avviò la TMB Optical, vendendo principalmente rifrattori di fascia alta con grande successo.
