In 2024 the Japanese Slim spacecraft (Smart Lander for Investigating Moon), launched on 7 September 2023 by the Jaxa space agency, made a soft moon landing in the Shioli crater in the Oceanus Procellarum region. Although the lander began communicating data to Earth, JAXA reported that the solar panels were not generating energy due to their poor orientation with respect to the direction of the Sun; from the data received, in fact, the panels are oriented towards the west while at the beginning of the lunar day the sunlight comes from the east. The lander was able to run on internal battery power for a short period of time, but was manually shut down the same day.

Nel 2024 la navicella giapponese Slim (Smart Lander for Investigating Moon) ,lanciata il 7 settembre 2023 dalll’agenzia spaziale Jaxa, ha effettuato un morbido allunaggio alle 16:20 ore italiane nel cratere Shioli nella regione di Oceanus Procellarum. Sebbene il lander abbia iniziato a comunicare dati verso la Terra, la JAXA ha comunicato che i pannelli solari non stavano generando energia per una cattiva orientazione degli stessi rispetto alla direzione del Sole; dai dati ricevuti infatti i pannelli sono orientati verso ovest mentre all’inizio del giorno lunare la luce solare proviene da est. Il lander è stato in grado di funzionare con l’alimentazione della batteria interna per un breve periodo di tempo, ma è stato spento manualmente il giorno stesso.
