In 1581 Galileo Galilei enrolled in medical courses at the University of Pisa, which he would leave in 1585 without having obtained any qualification.

In 1845 the Venetian astronomer Elia Millosevich was born, specialized in the observation and calculation of the trajectories of comets and asteroids (see Eros) and together with Vincenzo Cerulli compiled a catalog of 1291 stars. In 1891 he discovered the asteroids 303 Josephina and 306 Unitas.

In 1906 the German physicist Ludwig Eduard Boltzmann, founder of statistical mechanics, died by suicide. His love for the most extreme mathematization earned him the nickname of “algebraic terrorist”… The UAI named a lunar crater after Ludwig Eduard Boltzmann (see photo).

Nel 1906 muore suicida il fisico tedesco Ludwig Eduard Boltzmann, fondatore della meccanica statistica. Il suo amore per la matematizzazione più estrema gli valse il soprannome di “terrorista algebrico”… A Ludwig Eduard Boltzmann la UAI ha intitolato un cratere lunare (vedi foto).

In 2008 flyby of the Rosetta interplanetary probe to asteroid 2867 Stein at 800 km (see photo). The mission then continued successfully until it was placed in orbit around comet 67P / Churyumov-Gerasimenko in August 2014.

In 2012 the US probe Dawn ignited its ion engines with destination the dwarf planet 1 Ceres (with arrival in 2015, see photo). The launch took place in 2007 with the aim of studying and photographing the asteroid 4 Vesta (see photo) successfully completing the mission (see flight plan).
