In 1880 Lewis Swift discovered comet Tempel-Swift (see image above and cover image) which was initially seen by Tempel in 1869.

In 1968 Apollo program: NASA launches Apollo 7 (see photo), the first Apollo mission with men on board, with astronauts Wally Schirra, Donn F. Eisele and Walter Cunningham. The mission’s goals include the first live television broadcast from orbit and tests of the lunar module’s docking maneuvers.

In 1984 aboard the Space Shuttle Challenger, astronaut Kathryn D. Sullivan became the first American woman to walk in space (see photo).
