In 1978 the four Pioneer-Venus 2 probes (see image) entered the Venusian atmosphere on December 9, followed by the transport module.

In 1991 the Reiki amateur astronomer Kushida observed a supernova in M84 from the Jatsugatake-South Base Observatory. The supernova was of magnitude 14 and the instrument used was a 40-centimeter f/5 Newtonian.
