In 1846 the astronomer William Lassel discovered Triton (see image above + cover), satellite of Neptune and one of the most massive in the entire solar system, precisely the seventh, after Titan, the Moon and the four Medici satellites of Jupiter.

In 1960 the launch of the Soviet probe Marsnik 1 failed (see photo), the first destined for Mars.

Nel 1960 fallito il lancio della sonda sovietica Marsnik 1 (vedi foto) la prima destinata a Marte.

In 1983 the Soviet probe Venera 15 (see image) entered orbit around Venus followed 4 days later by its sister probe Venera 16. The two probes were designed to map the northern hemisphere of the planet up to 30° N latitude (approximately 25 % of the surface of Venus) with a resolution of 1–2 km and were the first probes to use synthetic aperture radar to collect images of another planet.

Nel 1983 la sonda sovietica Venera 15 (vedi immagine) entra in orbita attorno Venere seguita 4 giorni dopo dalla sonda gemella Venera 16. Le due sonde vennero progettate per mappare l’emisfero nord del pianeta fino ai 30° N di latitudine (approssimativamente il 25% della superficie di Venere) con una risoluzione di 1–2 km e furono le prime sonde ad utilizzare un radar ad apertura sintetica per raccogliere delle immagini di un altro pianeta.
